Sports and exercise

Why Entrepreneurs & Professionals Need To Get Moving.

For entrepreneurs and professionals, integrating sports & regular exercise into their routines is essential for maintaining both mental and physical health, which are critical for navigating the demands of a dynamic and often high-pressure environment. Incorporating movement into a busy schedule also helps establish a structured routine, contributing to a healthier work-life balance. This balance is essential for long-term sustainability, as it prevents burnout and promotes a more fulfilling and resilient approach to both work and personal life.

Importance Of Sports:

On a personal note, playing sports has taught me valuable lessons that seamlessly translate into my work life, including:

Improved focus & concentration:
Engaging in sports requires intense focus, whether its tracking a ball, anticipating an opponents move, or strategizing. This sharp focus helps me concentrate and make clear decisions at work.

Quick thinking: Many sports, especially the fast paced ones like table tennis require quick thinking and adaptibility which helps decision-making to be more agile.

Performing under pressure: Sports teaches you to stay as cool as a cucumber in high pressure situations that helps one to tackle stressful situations at work comfortably.

Instils discipline:
Sports come with their own set of rules and referees to keep everyone in check. Break the rules and you’ll find yourself facing penalties! The same self discipline you learn on the field can totally level up your game at work.

Resilience & perseverance:
Sports teaches individuals to cope up with failure, learn from mistakes and keep pushing forward. This resilience is crucial in decision-making, especially when facing setbacks or tough choices at work.

The way I see it:
Being a seasoned table tennis player, I make it a point to wrap up work on time and try not to skip my training sessions. The thrill of arriving at the practice hall with my fellow players is unbeatable. Sure I get tired, but that exhaustion just makes me feel recharged with pride as I hit a new milestones each session at the table.

Some friends also misunderstand my discipline, asking things like “As an entrepreneur, how can you make it to practice sessions regularly? Don’t you have work?” or “How come you wrap up by 6:30pm? Shouldn’t you be available until 9pm like the rest of us?”

My answer is straightforward: “There’s nothing wrong with balancing work and sports by sticking to a disciplined routine. In fact you should clock out of the office on time and get moving yourself!”

Importance of Exercise:

Want to feel better, boost your energy, and maybe even add a few years to your life? Just start exercising! With more desk jobs popping up, you’re at the risk of health issues from sitting too long and bad posture. But guess what? Exercise can help counteract these problems and keep you feeling great.

Want to avoid extra weight or keep off the weight you’ve lost? Treat exercise as your best friend. When you get active, you burn calories, and the more intense the workout, the more calories you burn, helping to keep your weight in check. Regular gym sessions are fantastic, but if you can’t find a big chunk of time, don’t stress – any bit of activity is better than none.

Exercise is a secret weapon against all health woes of a desk job. It gets your blood pumping, fixes that desk hunch & fights off sneaky issues like back pain, diabetes and heart diseases. So get moving and kick those office-related health problems to the curb!

My Experience:
After dealing with an episode of high blood pressure early in my entrepreneurship journey due to stress, I make it a priority to hit the gym 3-4 times a week in addition to my sports routine.

Strength training is my secret weapon – it keeps me feeling fit & strong! Whether I’m pumping iron or working on endurance, I’m all about building power and avoiding injuries.

Yeh Buddy! Light weight! 🙂
