A Day Trek To Karnala Fort
Upon recovering from a knee surgery and after a year-long break from sports and adventure activities, I had the opportunity to quench my insatiable thirst for a monsoon trek by visiting the Karnala Fort – A moderate-level trek with a scenic route, ideal for avid and beginner trekkers.
The Karnala fort is nestled within the scenic Karnala bird sanctuary, a mere 10km away from the city of Panvel. What stands out about this destination is its focus on cleanliness. Upon entering, a nominal fee and a deposit for each plastic item in your backpack will be charged. Your deposit will be returned only when all the plastic items are presented, ensuring an unparalleled standard of cleanliness. This innovative approach truly makes a difference in maintaining the pristine condition of the area.
There is a small local cafeteria inside the sanctuary that offers delicious Maharashtrian cuisine, their vada pav and Misal pav is to die for. Starting with a pleasant stroll through the bird sanctuary, the journey gradually unfolds with scenic views leading up to the fort.
Caution: It is important to refrain from snacking along the way to avoid attracting a group of monkeys. Instead, it is highly recommended to indulge in a meal at the cafeteria before and after the climb.
Although the final part of the trek presents a slight challenge, it is undeniably enjoyable.
